Ender 3 z axis not moving

Hi all! I'm new to 3d printing, and have been printing quite happily with my ender 3 pro. But now have an issue that the gantry doesn't seem to want to rise up to continue the print see attached image instead seems to just etch onto the glass bed. I have checked the z axis rod for parallel and that the gantry is free to move up and down, which it does. Don't know if it's a coincidence Looks like your home position is too low.

You gotta raise your Z-Endstop. Glass is thicker than magnetic build plate so you must raise nozzle starting position by raising the Z-Endstop. I only got the regular Ender 3, not the Pro, but I had the same issue: The glass bed is so thick, the bed couldn't be lowered enough with the screws. So I also had to raise the Z endstop. And I also managed to mess things up a while ago, causing the nozzle to rub on the bed to hard it actually pressed the bed down into the springs.

It looked like it's not raising while actually it does. It's just that the bed springs are raising the bed with it and the nozzle keeps rubbing. Anyway, fix the end stop and level your bed, then it should be fine.

Except that you most likely have to replace your nozzle: After rubbing on the rough side of the glass bed for a couple of minutes my nozzle was actually worn down by a couple of mm. Looks like brass is much softer then glass. By the way, the glass bed is still working fine without lasting damage from the rubbing. If any, it sticked even better than before. Since then I occasionally give the bed a good rub with a brass wire brush. Hadn't thought my nozzle might now be worn, will take a look.

After fixing the issue I printed a small giraffe, but it didn't finish due to it not sticking to the glass. What in your opinion is the best way to adhere to glass? Also the best way to clean the glass? Assuming you got the distance right and the bed cleaned, things should be sticking more or less by itself. Ah, end your extrusion should be about right.

Severe underextrusion may also cause the print to pop off. But then the rest of the print should look bad, too.

Baggybot Jul 25, Any help would be gratefully received. After sending out multiple EZABL kits over the years and getting feedback from customers that have issues there are many that had Z axis that were not working correctly and this throws off the probe. Before you move forward to check that you can easily move your Z axis leadscrews.

If you are getting inconsistent or odd behavior with the ABL then the likely culprit is a Z-axis that is binding up in certain spots. The Z leadscrews should be able to be turned by hand with minimal effort. Your couplers should look like below and NOT be stretched out. There should be little to no resistance when you do this. If you have resistance then proceed with the checks below.

You must check this by HAND. Just because it moves with the motors does NOT mean you do not have an issue. Measure this. If your Z steppers are getting too little power you can verify by moving the Z up mm from your control box and then grabbing the Z leadscrews. The motors will be engaged and if you have proper amperage then they will be VERY hard to turn. If you can turn them easily and make the motor skip you will feel it skipping a step then you need to check the connections to the Z motor s.

It should NOT spin freely but it should just touch the extrusion enough to keep the gantry straight. Z Leadscrew needs Lubrication If the above fixes do not work try adding lubrication to the leadscrew from top to bottom. You just need a small amount and then move the z up and down completely a few times to spread the lube evenly.

I recommend you do this anyways as it will help ensure smooth operation of the printer.BLUF: measure the top and bottom distance of the lead screw from the frame. I experienced two different printers. One I assembled myself had Z-axis binding, the one my son assembled did not. So to the problem at hand. After assembly, the Z-axis would not move under the motors power, it was binding and after inspection, I figured out it was because the lead screw was out of alignment with the coupler.

This prevents the motor from moving the lead screw.

It only takes a minute to sign up. Layer height is set for 0. No settings changed in the G-code, or on the machine and I did a "reset to failsafe" before attempting to print anything.

Now I need to get into details as to quality, and I suspect that too will be a factor for the G-code used in the printer.
